South Sound Network

SCBWI Western Washington’s new South Sound Network meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble in west Olympia (1530 Black Lake Blvd, SW, Olympia 98502). All are welcome. Organizer Kiki Hamilton appreciates it if you’ll alert us at scbwiwa@scbwi-washington.org if you’re planning to make it, so she knows how many to expect. TOPIC: It All Starts Here: The Role of Sketchbooks and Journaling in the Creative Process

The Bellingham Network wants to offer our sincere thanks to our hardworking Network Coordinator and Ad Com member, Kjersten Hayes, and wish her much success as she transitions to her new home in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We also want to welcome our new Network Coordinator, Angelina Hansen, who resides in the less exotic Maple Falls, WA, but is nonetheless enthusiastic about her new role in the network and region.

How can we get 2010 off to a great start? Let’s talk creativity! Do you use sketchbooks and journals in creating illustrations and stories? Or does your creative process originate in another way? Please bring along your sketchbooks and writing journals and join us for a lively discussion of where ideas begin.

What is a Schmooze?

A Schmooze is a gathering of children's writers and illustrators designed to share knowledge, great news, and companionship. They are free activities offered by the SCBWI WWA Bellingham Network. A Schmooze is a great place to meet local authors and illustrators - people like you who share your interests and goals. At a Schmooze, you'll have the chance to network, make friends, and get connected. Occasionally guest speakers will be featured at a Schmooze, but usually they are meetings that are structured around discussions about various topics of interest to children's writers and illustrators. A Schmooze is not a fix-it, nor is it a forum for critique, though critique groups can grow out of a Schmooze.
